Rosie Bozeman, certified nursing assistant (CNA) at Ascension Living Alexian Village, located in Chattanooga, TN, was honored with the senior living and care organization’s 2019 Executive Director Servant Leader Award. A panel of expert post-acute and senior living leaders reviewed all nominations and picked Rosie as the most deserving associate across the 54 locations of Ascension Living.
Ascension Living’s newly created Heart of Ministry Award is given to an associate who reveals the heart of our ministry. This is demonstrated in the way an associate lives our values and the associate’s impact upon our associates and the people we serve.
“Rosie’s dedication to our residents, our team and our community is remarkable,” said Danny Stricker, chief operating officer, Ascension Living. “We are inspired by her good work and in awe of her passion.”
Bozeman began working at Alexian Village when she was 16 years old, more than 44 years ago in the continuing care retirement community’s dining room. Her boss didn’t think she would make it because she was too small, but within just a few months, she transferred to nursing and has remained a loyal caregiver ever since. Willing to do whatever is needed, she has worked in almost every building at Alexian Village, including the Old Inn, assisted living and the new health and rehabilitation center.
In the numerous nominations received from community residents, family members and co-workers, Bozeman was repeatedly described as loyal, passionate and a team player.
“Her dedication to her job, her compassion for the patient was what you would expect from a family member,” stated Bob Sansbury, Alexian Village resident. “She helped my wife in every way she could. I could put my complete trust in Rosie to care for my wife with the same dedication as I would if I were there. She exemplifies the Christian definition of the Good Samaritan.”
“Rosie exemplifies the mission of the Alexian Brothers and Ascension Living,” remarked Debra Baker, R.N., regional director of clinical operations, Ascension Living. “She is a wonderful teacher and mentor to the new CNAs and the residents and families love her. She is always kind and patient with me and never made me feel like the ‘new nurse,’ She is one of the reasons that I fell in love with Alexian Village so long ago.”
“We celebrate Rosie each day for serving as the heart of our ministry,” said Terry Thompkins, regional executive director, Ascension Living Alexian Village. “She is the perfect person to receive this inaugural award.”
